Experience
I have been tutoring elementary students since I myself was an elementary school student. Over the years I have continued to tutor, as well as teach through the Girl Scouts of America and Headstart. In the past few years I have tutored many college students who had studied English in their home countries but were not 100% sure of their ability to be understood. I was not only able to help with their pronunciation but with their general understanding of American culture, idioms, and sayings. I have spent extensive time abroad studying foreign languages and I believe my experience being an outsider in a strange place has given me unique insight into the exchange student or immigrant experience. I can't remember my SAT, GRE, and LSAT scores off the top of my head but I can tell you that for my undergraduate program and subsequent graduate programs, I only applied to one institution (per program)and I was accepted with funding. I want to be a tutor because it is something that I know I'm good at. I have taken students from a D average to an A minus average. I love imparting knowledge. I also love to see a child who is struggling and feeling down realize that he or she isn't stupid but maybe is better learning math/science/english/etc in a different way. I have had many different jobs in my life. I have gone to a host of different schools. I have studied at least half a dozen different topics in great depth. I have lived in many different places and under a variety of different circumstances. Because of these things, I have many different areas of expertise. I am comfortable tutoring younger and older students from every walk of life.
